I need to add to the above comment that us going bankrupt doesn't affect our new business, RichThinkers. What a wonderful irony that name carries! When we started to see the trouble looming we had to learn a lot about bankruptcy and one of the reassuring things is that there is no bar to us continuing in business. The only thing affected would be our ability to borrow. At the moment, we feel a bit allergic to borrowing so that would be fine by us, should it happen.

Hi Richard, thanks for the interesting and positive sense that you write above. This is also my experience. I don't follow the news broadcasts either, they are too fearful. In my opinion, the media are making an art form of selling fear. Probably because it sells well! How sad! And what a waste of the creative talents of so many people.
My wife and I are actually facing bankruptcy. We bought a piece of development land with a bank loan just at the wrong time (two years ago) and can no longer pay the interest. What we are doing personally with this is using it to challenge our ability to stay positive when faced with what at first seemed catastrophe. Feelings of shame were strong. Neither of us has ever not paid a debt. Feelings of failure too. How could we make such a bad decision? We have invested and lost over £100,000!
Long story short is that what may seem catastrophic actually depends on us, on how we see it rather than on the recession or decisions made by a bank. As you say, this is not the Great Depression, and I agree it is insulting to those who suffered that to make such comparisons. Personally, my wife and I may lose all our assets, our house even, (it depends on which expert you ask!) but as my wife said the other day, the bank can't hurt us, only we can do that to ourselves. I don't want to make this sound easy, it isn't. We struggle with our negative feelings sometimes. We blame sometimes, ourselves, each other, the fates, and it has had a bad effect on my health. Yet through it all we look for the truth. Today, this moment, I am OK. I can feel my breath still doing its thing, and my heart. I'm not living on the street, I had a good breakfast. Please don't think I am hiding my head in the sand, that is not the case, but the fear of what may be coming is different from what is actually happening now and I don't want that fear to run me. So, for example, we had to send a proposal to the bank this week. This took a lot of work and thought and consultation with experts (so-called, some were better that others!) and when we sent it we blessed it with our good wishes and affirmed that we don't know what is going to happen, and that the unlikely and the miraculous are possible. Let's wait and see and in the meantime appreciate the blessings and bounty of this amazing life we lead. Let's be cheerful, as you propose! Best wishes to you and your readers.
